The COP is held every two years. This 2024, for the first time in history, Colombia will
host the 16th edition of the biennial Conference on Biodiversity. Each of these
Conferences seeks to take decisive measures for the protection of biological diversity.
This year, COP16 will take place in Cali, capital of the department of Valle del Cauca
(Colombia), between October 21 and November 1, 2024.The slogan “Peace with
Nature” is a call to reflection to improve the relationship with the environment, to
rethink an economic model that does not prioritize the extraction, overexploitation and
contamination of nature.
The International Centre for Environmental Education and Community Developmenrt-
ICENECDEV will organized 2 side events at the margin of COP16 on Reversing and
Halting the Impact of Plastic Pollution on Ocean Biodiversity on the 26 th October in the
Nature Positive Pavilion 5pm to 6pm Colombia Local Time and 31 st October 2024
Afternoon Session.ICENECDEV will drawing inspiration from experience and
knowledge engaging with communities to Combat Plastic Pollution Along the West
Coastline of Cameroon and Gulf of Guinea and other parts of Africa financed by the
Norwegian Retailer Environment Fund, Waste Free Oceans Belgium , Empower
Norway, Sufrider Foundation,Ecotour Enterprise SWIFT Belgium, XminusY
Netherlands.
Plastic pollution poses a severe threat to marine life and ecosystems, with far-reaching
consequences for biodiversity and human health. Addressing this issue requires a
multifaceted approach involving reducing plastic production and consumption,
improving waste management, and undertaking clean-up efforts,Reduce Your Use
of Single-Use Plastics, Support Legislation to Curb Plastic Production, Plastic Pollution
Treaty and Waste,reuse/recycle, Participate In (or Organize) a Beach or Coastal
Cleanup and restoration of marine ecosystem through Agroecology and Agroforestry.
